Sustainability Week

Monday 23 – Friday 27 March 2026

We are pleased to announce that Meritton British International School will be observing Sustainability Week from March Monday 23rd to Friday 27th. This dedicated week aims to foster climate change awareness and drive meaningful behavioral shifts across our entire school community. Through a series of hands-on activities, we hope to empower our students to become the sustainability leaders of tomorrow. Throughout the week, our campus will engage in several Whole-School Initiatives. We are launching a School Van Trial and Carpooling Campaign to reduce our collective carbon footprint, alongside a rigorous “No Plastic” focus where we encourage everyone to bring their own reusable bottles and bags. Additionally, a Food Waste Reduction program led by the Student Council will run alongside our “Big Cleaning” initiative to keep our school and local community clean.

Our daily schedule is designed to be both educational and interactive for all year groups:

Whole-School Daily Initiatives

● Monday (Save Energy) We will observe a “Save Energy Hour” from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM. in this mission as we switch off all non-essential lights, cooling systems, and electronic devices across our classrooms and offices.
● Tuesday (Planting Day) Students will focus on greenery by planting vegetables and herbs. Early Years will manage four dedicated garden beds, while Primary and Secondary students will engage in vegetable and herbal planting throughout the day.

● Wednesday (Pollinators & Community) We are excited to welcome The Chiang Mai Bee Centre, who will visit from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM to discuss the vital role of pollinators with our EY and KS1 students. In the afternoon, Secondary students will lead a campus-wide cleaning day.

● Thursday (Environmental Workshops) The Chiang Mai NaYu Foundation will join us to conduct workshops on environmental issues for our Upper Primary and Secondary students.

● The week will culminate on March Friday 27th with our “Swap, Share & Donate” event. We invite students to bring high-quality, pre-loved items – such as books, clothing, and toys in good condition to participate.

Thank you for your continued support in helping our students become the sustainability leaders of tomorrow.
